The S.M.A.R.T. Approach to Goal Setting
NON-S.M.A.R.T.: I WANT TO LOSE 50LBS BY THE END OF THE MONTH
Specific: I want to lose 10lbs by August 31, 2014. I will exercise 5-6 times per week, a minimum of 60 minutes each session, and follow a meal plan of 1400kcalorie.
Measurable: My current weight is 150lbs and I will weigh 140lbs by the end of the month. I will average a 2lbs weight loss each week.
Attainable: I will not eat fast food, prepare my meals, cut out soda, sweets, and simple carbs. I will eat clean. I will exercise before work and one day on the weekend.
Relevant: I will use a tracker to record my progress and track daily goals. I will tell my family and friends to hold me accountable.
Timed: August 31st I will weigh in at 140lbs.
